Our role included structuring joint venture agreements between the landowners and developers, addressing community interest, handling title perfection, and supervising the regulatory approval process with the Lagos State Ministry of Physical Planning.

We are currently advising a real estate investment firm on the structuring of a Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT) for commercial office developments in Abuja and Port Harcourt. Our team ensures compliance with SEC regulations and liaises with trustees, property managers, and investors to safeguard all parties' interests.

Smith & Partners LP recently represented a multinational construction company in drafting and negotiating a FIDIC-based EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) contract for the development of a 25-storey office tower in Victoria Island, Lagos. We handled all risk allocation issues, project timelines, liquidated damages, and dispute resolution mechanisms.

We also assist landlords and tenants in preparing leases, tenancy agreements, and property management contracts, particularly for commercial and mixed-use developments. We have successfully mediated and litigated tenancy disputes involving unpaid rent, unlawful eviction, service charge obligations, and property damage.

Our firm has defended construction clients in regulatory enforcement matters involving the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), ensuring timely resolution and compliance to avoid project delays or penalties.
